Madeleine Dalla Torre Castillo is a first generation Swede from Nicaragua that currently lives and works out of New York City and Los Angeles. Inspired by the urban culture of her youth, she discovered her passion for photography in her early ages. So far, her photography has taken on the path of the universal journey to belong, scraping against the dichotomy of her own experience as a migrant. Grappling with cultural and social changes as a result of the diaspora has fueled her work to create room for authenticity in an ever evolving sociopolitical landscape. Visually, her work is a blend of soft and bold compositions - its meditative, emotive and prideful, encapsulated in a vibrant manner. While Dalla Torre’s work celebrates the beauty of marginalized groups, she strives for representation in the creative industry in hope to create opportunities as well as erase oppressive systems stigmatization’s or misconceptions of beauty. Dalla Torre has exhibited her work at MILK Studios and Apple to name a few.
